Heavy haulage for the new crossing tower
A steel construction customer in Hildesheim manufactured an approximately 29-metre-high spire for the historic monastery church in Amelungsborn. It was intended to replace a temporary solution that had stood for years. As part of repair work on the more than 800-year-old church, the steel spire was made for the new crossing tower. Its natural reddish-brown protective rust layer complements the church’s sandstone.
“The challenge was not just the dimensions, but also finding the right time window for the wind-dependent crane installation.”

Delivery in calm weather conditions
As mobile cranes needed calm conditions to lift the spire into place, the transport date had to be closely coordinated with the weather service. Using an extendable semi-trailer, a low-bed trailer and an escort vehicle, the convoy arrived at the monastery on schedule, passing numerous onlookers. The mobile cranes were already in position and could begin assembly immediately.
