Heavy haulage with a width of 6.25 metres
A transport distance of seven kilometres and an individual component weight of 20 tonnes may not sound particularly challenging. However, a transport width of 6.25 metres makes a considerable difference.
Messer Industriemontagen & Apparatebau GmbH manufactured two components of an industrial settling tank for K+S in record time. The components measured 8.50 × 6.25 × 3.15 metres and 6.25 × 4.90 × 3.60 metres.
The settling tank is a major component of the KKF plant for kainite crystallisation followed by flotation at the Hattorf site. The project forms part of K+S's investments to reduce saline production wastewater at its Werra plant. Messer entrusted Speedlog with transporting the components to Philippsthal.
“The greatest challenge was not the weight, but the exceptional width of the load and the limited space along the route.”

Precision manoeuvring across the Werra bridge
Following route inspections, on-site meetings, detailed coordination with everyone involved and final transport inspection by the police, the convoy set off at night as scheduled.
The components were positioned on the vehicles so that they extended above the safety barriers of the narrow Werra bridge. With police and BF3 escorts as well as a support vehicle, obstacles could be bypassed or temporarily dismantled.
Both components reached their destination as planned.
