When overhead cranes reach their lifting limits, specialised heavy-load solutions are required. For our customer Präwema Antriebstechnik GmbH, Speedlog supported the internal movement and loading of a 28-tonne milling machine in preparation for its onward transport to Italy.
A Milling Machine Too Heavy for the Overhead Cranes
Weighing 28,000 kilograms, the milling machine exceeded the lifting capacity of the existing overhead cranes. Moving the machine safely out of the production hall and loading it for transport therefore required a carefully coordinated heavy-load concept.
Präwema's logistics team relied on a proven combination of specialised equipment, experienced personnel and close cooperation between the companies involved.
Four Key Components of the Heavy Machinery Transport
The operation involved four essential elements:
-
Heavy-duty machinery skates and specialist personnel to move the machine within the facility
-
A 100-tonne mobile crane for loading
-
A tarpaulin-covered low-loader trailer to transport the milling machine
-
A curtainsider trailer for the accessories
The key to success was effective teamwork. Established procedures and close coordination between the specialists involved and Präwema's employees ensured that the operation ran smoothly.
„In heavy machinery transport, the real challenge often begins inside the production hall. What matters most is ensuring that everyone involved and all the equipment work together seamlessly.“
– Grigo SImsek
From the Production Hall onto the Low-Loader
The milling machine was first positioned on heavy-duty machinery skates inside the hall. With the assistance of a forklift, the specialists then moved the 28-tonne machine outside, where the mobile crane was ready for loading.
The 100-tonne mobile crane carefully lifted the milling machine onto the tarpaulin-covered low-loader trailer. The accessories were transported separately using a curtainsider trailer.
The machine was then ready to begin its journey to Italy.
Careful Planning Makes Complex Transport Operations Manageable
What may appear straightforward at first glance requires thorough preparation and precise coordination of every step.
The Präwema project demonstrates that professional heavy-load logistics begins well before a shipment reaches the road. Moving large machines within industrial facilities already demands experience, suitable equipment and reliable partners.
Speedlog keeps things moving – even within production facilities.
