44 tonnes, 15 metres long and nine days on the road: Speedlog coordinated a total of 41 special transports from Germany and the Czech Republic for an asphalt mixing plant destined for Madrid. This demanding logistics project required not only specialised transport equipment but also careful planning of the necessary permits.
Eight Production Sites, One Destination: Madrid
Our customer Ammann Asphalt GmbH commissioned Speedlog to transport an asphalt mixing plant to a customer in Madrid.
The individual components were collected from eight production sites in Germany and the Czech Republic. Our Iberia department coordinated all 41 special transports.
Over a period of four months, the different components had to be transported according to their dimensions and points of origin.
44 Tonnes on Ten Axles
The heaviest component of the plant presented a particular challenge: a drum with impressive dimensions.
-
Weight: 44,000 kg
-
Length: 15 m
-
Width: 3.5 m
-
Height: 3.75 m
-
Transport configuration: ten axles
-
Journey time: nine days and eight nights
The drum travelled on a telescopic low-bed trailer from the production facility in the Czech Republic to Madrid.
Nine days and eight nights may sound like a comfortable journey. Whether a 44-tonne drum would agree is another question.
Transport Permits: A Critical Part of the Planning Process
For transports of this scale, the right equipment is only part of the solution. Obtaining the necessary permits for transit through France and onward transport in Spain was particularly time-consuming.
The applications had to be submitted well in advance to allow the transports to proceed as planned.
In addition to the drum, the cargo included several tanks measuring 15 metres in length, 3.6 metres in width and 3.75 metres in height. Other components reached widths of up to 4.2 metres.
„With a project involving 41 special transports, it is essential to coordinate every stage well in advance. Obtaining permits for France and Spain, in particular, requires forward planning.“

Different Loads Require Different Vehicles
Speedlog used a range of specialised vehicles to handle the various components.
Alongside numerous curtain-sided trailers, the operation involved eight low-bed vehicles and several open mega trailers.
Depending on the dimensions of the cargo and the point of departure, individual journey times ranged from three to nine days.
Complex Project Logistics for the Asphalt Industry
The project demonstrates the importance of coordinating transport equipment, permit procedures and route planning for international heavy-haul operations.
By coordinating 41 special transports from eight production sites to Madrid, Speedlog's Iberia department demonstrated its expertise in international project logistics and heavy transport.
